How It Began…

The White Flag Ministry began in 2017 with a growing concern among First Baptist Church members for the homeless community. The upcoming winter propelled that concern into action. After a few conversations, the idea of sheltering individuals at a local hotel came to fruition. In the beginning, we weren’t entirely sure what this would look like “big picture,” but we knew we wanted to help.

Today, the ministry of White Flag has grown beyond our wildest dreams! We have had the opportunity to partner with local businesses, community members, and churches to help serve the homeless population across Corbin. Since its inception in 2017, the White Flag Ministry has provided shelter, food, and counseling to thousands of individuals in need.

In February of 2022, we formed a partnership with RRJ Solutions to provide case management for our patrons. RRJ Solutions specializes specifically in mental health and substance abuse counseling. They have truly been a blessing to work with over the past few years.

The White Flag Ministry is now located in The Burkhart Center on the property of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Patrons can come to the center Monday-Friday from 4:00 PM-5:00 PM. to warm up and receive a hot meal, clothing, blankets, counseling, and other resources. Shelter nights are announced on the White Flag Ministry Facebook page.
